The last Saturday in August

I love this picture of the fog this morning in Beaufort.
Credit to Eat Sleep Play Beaufort.

I had to work then run errands, but happy that Maddie, Jack and Zeus enjoyed a day on the water with their family.

Upon the loss of a wonderful young man.

“I don't want my life to be defined by what is etched on a tombstone. I want it to be defined in what is etched in the lives and hearts of those I've touched.”
Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free

The etchings made by JW upon the hearts and in the lives of his family and caregivers will live forever. May the Peace of God be with all in mourning for this young man today.

A busy Saturday!

We slept in before picking up the daring duo. Our first stop on this cloudy and windy Saturday was the Children's Museum.
We had a late lunch then went home for a few minutes to rest before Maddie claimed her prize -
a trip to Frankie's Fun Park.
We promised this outing if Maddie had a good first week of school. Maddie did great with  95% or 100% each day on behavior goals.

Too short to drive a go-cart.

Watching the go-cart races from the tower.

Tall enough to drive a bumper boat.

Jack couldn't get past the first block with three attempts.
Maddie made it to thefourth block, over thirty feet, before looking down and realizing that she was afraid.

First day of second grade

Maddie is quite the little fashionista. Maddie loves to shop and try on clothes. She chose mostly skorts so she "can cut cartwheels without anybody seeing my underwear." She tried on lots of bookbags before settling on a pink and black combination with comfort straps. Maddie chose  which outfit she wanted to wear each day this week "plus one extra shirt in case I spill something like you Mimi."
We love this child.

Camp Maddie week ends.

Maddie played in the church yard after mass. Maddie starts First Communion classes in three weeks.
We had lunch @ East Bay Deli, visited great-grandma then took Maddie home to hang up her clothes for the week and show her Mom her back to school supplies, book bag, and lunch box.

Maddie is ready for second grade where she plans "to listen and learn."

A Folly Saturday

Maddie joined  me @ work on Folly for the annual LOR Beach Day.

Everyone wanted to at least get their feet wet on this cloudy, but otherwise perfect beach day.

Ice cream for all!

Maddie learned of the world of food samples as we made a stop on the way home.

Sorrowful Beauty

Beautiful scenes in Beaufort this afternoon are in stark contrast to the early morning hours in a Charleston ER as a medically fragile child passed to the comforting arms of Jesus.

"Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come."

Camp Maddie

Floating in the pool with Charlotte on Monday.
Enjoying the Splash Zone @ James Island County Park with Poppy on Tuesday (wimpy Charlotte said it was too hot to have this much fun).

An evening bike ride with Mimi and Poppy left Mimi with deja vu.

This is Maddie's last week of freedom before beginning second grade. Maddie and Poppy will go to the Children's Museum on Wednesday before turning leadership over to Carrie and Wes for a couple of days.

Josie's 13th birthday

We sang Happy Birthday to Josie and gave the pets special treats.
Vince just took it all in stride until it was time for Vince to smack poor Felix.
An evening bike ride in the heat while Josie decided it was time to go to her new bed.

Saturday afternoon at the pool

It was very pleasant by the pool late this afternoon. Spencer just floated along like his mom. Unfortunately, Spencer had to have milk while we had pizza by the pool for dinner!

Thank you

Thank you to Dream Foundation, the NY Giants, and most of all to Eli Manning for making a phone call to our hospice youth. A dream came true today for this very special young man.

Red, red, red, red, redfish - to misquote Blake Shelton

Gene and Charlotte went fishing @ Palmetto Islands County Park (one of my favorite places on this earth) while I was at work today.

Charlotte caught bait.

Gene said they caught about 10 redfish this afternoon.

Charlotte caught the three largest redfish, the largest was about 35 inches long and had been tagged by a research vessel. Charlotte plans to call in her catch and release information about the tagged fish

The most important event of this date?
The 21st birthday of my nephew, Caleb, who is a College of Charleston student..
