Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Official Trailer 2 [HD]

A difficult to watch movie because of the subject matter: 9/11 and autism spectrum symptoms. This is a good movie, but the only Oscar worthy performance is from the young man who carries the movie.

The Last Beautiful Saturday of January, 2012

A lovely morning at Sullivan's Island Park then lunch @ Haddrell's Point and Johnny's Hotdogs. Maddie had a 10 minute nap from one place to the other.
The afternoon was spent at the IOP County Park. We managed to stay at the playground for awhile.
The beach soon beckoned with temperatures in the 70s. There was a slight delay to pull sand spurs off Maddie. Ah, natural consequences are the best as a certain little girl should listen to Mimi and Poppa and not run ahead and try to hide among the sea oats.
There was no way to keep the duo out of the water as the tidal pools were so warm this low tide.
Oh well, I had a towel and changes of clothing in the car so all ended well.
Enjoying my new camera, but need to read the instruction manual again and utilize the different settings.

Keith Urban - You Gonna Fly

The king of concert experiences ... Keith Urban. The closest I have been is 8 rows and a line of security guards. Patrick Davis said he knows Keith personally and could help me backstage. Umm, who have I met that could hide me in a bunk on the bus?

Sherlock Holmes : Game Of Shadows - Official Trailer 2 [HD]

Finally, some free time this cloudy afternoon, so off to the movies. I've been a Jude Law fan since Cold Mountain and a Robert Downey, Jr. fan since Chances Are. I really enjoyed this sequel. I find the Guy Ritchie vision of Sherlock Holmes entertaining although one must suspend most of one's knowledge of the literary Holmes and Watson. I don't even mind the Matrix inspired slow motion action scenes.
Thumbs up to an entertaining movie that caused a dinner table discussion of European history of the era, and the arms industry as the ongoing cause of modern comflicts - even the Republican in the household did not object to the supposition that Cheney is the visible direct link to modern warfare.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday provided the time away from work to enjoys a Monday afternoon movie.

Sunday with a cutie (instead of Merle)

Two Merle Haggard fans spent much of the weekend in Greenville with relatives, but worked in a visit with this cutie and family before the concert.
Charlotte and Gene were disappointed to arrive at the Township Auditorium to find Mr. Haggard was sick and the show could not go on. Oh well, there is always the rain date.
It happened to me once (back in the last century)when friends and I arrived in Columbia for a Stevie Nicks concert at the old coliseum. Everything worked out fine as we had a great time before, during, and after the Thanksgiving weekend raindate. Uh, wait a minute, Charlotte and Gene, do not need to have that kind of good time:)

Another Sunny Saturday

You have to love winter in the lowcountry.
A nice lunch at Johnny's (in between Royal Hardware and Haddrell's Point) for a yummy hot dog with jalapeno relish. Then onto the old burnt out bridge (now known as the Pitt Street Bridge Park). This young boykin ran ahead of his owner, barking at everything and nothing, finally getting back onboard as they headed under the bridge. Still figuring out my new camera without reading the manual. So took and discarded lots of pictures while riding around the old village. In the low 70s and sunny so a great day for the bikes.

A Family Tradition

Passing along a love of the water and fishing on a winter day.

Happy 2012!

Here's to a better year than 2011! I made a few resolutions.
I made progress with the first goal by walking the Cooper River Bridge this morning.
I was able to get Charlotte to take her first bath since Wednesday and wash her hair! Best of all, Charlotte also brushed her teeth after a new neighbor told her that it would be a good idea.
I mulched the leaves in our front yard and the empty house next door in the afternoon, made collards and hoppin john for dinner, and let the girls clean up the kitchen. I am going to take a page from their daily life and go to bed early! Happy New Year!
