Memorial Day

Early morning holiday fishing @ Palmetto Islands Cty Park. A fishing buddy? No, just trying to get dry and warm up after a downpour that soaked everything as we arrived - poor thing could barely move for a long time. We spent the afternoon on Sullivan's Island.
This lady sure enjoyed a relaxing day fishing on the dock behind the fort.
A moment to remember our armed forces throughout the years @ Fort Moultrie. We topped off the day with an early dinner @ Sullivan's Hometeam Barbeque - just as good as the original Hometeam in West Ashley. I divided my pork and Charlotte, just now home from work, has enough pork for a sandwich tonight and tomorrow @ lunch.

Sunday morning - just before freedom!

Jack, such a sweet boy, actually went on the back porch to play after breakfast as I told them both to do as we waited on their mom for pickup.
There she is, already down the street and on her way back. She listens about as well as this one.
Just as their mom drove up I had two obedient children (notice I did not say three).
Alls well that ends well. I had freedom as Kristy took Charlotte home with her in exchange for the babysitting! Overnight and to take her to work on Monday! Free, free, free at last, well after Gene went to work. Lots of things to do: Mass in C @ Piccolo Spoleto, art venues, a slice of Andolini's mushroom pizza to go for one, dinner by the Beryl whipped ocean, Barnes and Noble, etc.

Saturday with Kenda

Maddie discovered Carrie and Charlotte's dolls from childhood (Kenda and Melanie). Carrie said Maddie could play with Kenda so Kenda went everywhere with Mimi and Maddie this windy day. The second tropical storm of the year (Beryl) made for a very windy second weekend in a row.
Shopping @ Tanger
At the park. All was well until Jack was added to the babysitting mix and the rest of the evening was devoted to these two puppies snarling, nipping at each other and vying for Mimi's attention. Charlotte was at work and Poppy was trying to be heard over the wind and cutting sand as he played a wedding on Folly Beach.

GCPrimary K5 graduation

K% graduation was a 10 am event followed by cupcakes, brownies, chips, and Capri Suns. Of course, students were free to go home at that point. Poppy was the only adult who did not have to go to work so he had Maddie duty in the afternoon.
A little drum practice ended the evening's festivities. Maddie literally fell asleep as she walked back and forth about 9:30pm, the energy level is incredible.

Now they are one, RIP Robin Gibb.

Sunday @ IOP County PArk

Couldn't wait until another weekend to go to the beach, so off we went this afternoon. The wind driven sand (Tropical Storm Alberto is off shore) and rough waves made it diffcult to stay on the beach so we took our chairs back up on the lawn and enjoyed a nap. The wildflowers and dunes were just in front of where we plopped the chairs. They were just so beautiful, but this was the best I could do with the crackberry phone camera.
Best of all, Charlotte enjoyed spending the afternoon with Kristy for some sister bonding time.

A cloudy, misty Saturday

We went shopping and to the movies after a few chores this am. The plantings in this circle outside of the Palmetto Grande are very similar to the plantings at the entrance to our subdivision and the entrance to St. Francis. Same landscaping company? I don't know, but it was like seeing the same vista in three different locations.
Kristy and friends went out in Kristy's boat even though it was a little chilly. Jack and Maddie were able to try out the new airhead. They just weigh enough together to keep it in the water. I love the picture of Maddie and her thumb. She may be big enough to ride behind the boat, but still needs that thumb when sleepy.

HMS Bounty

My gift today was peace and quiet a good portion of the day as Gene and Charlotte took their first fishing trip of the year in the boat. I slept until 9:30 am, did a few chores, but just enjoyed the solitude for a while. Kristy and I enjoyed time at the nail salon in the afternoon. The replica of the HMS Bounty was docked in Charleston Harbor this weekend for tours. It was built in 1960 for the movie Mutiny on the Bounty. Charlotte took a few good pictures.

Sunday on Amelia Island

To church with the relatives as Uncle Mark helped lead the informal song service. More time @ the Shrimp Festival and more heat. The inevitable, thunderstorms, took us back to our home away from home, but we made it out to the beach for a little while in the evening. The Incredible moon hid behind the clouds this evening.

The Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach, FL

We did not go to bed on Friday night! After getting ready to leave early Saturday morning, we decided to just go ahead and leave, driving through the night. The super lunar moon steered us down 17 then 95. The moon's reflection shimmered across each expanse of marsh and waterway. We arrived in Florida just before 5 am, but took a nap at the Welcome Center, then had breakfast before knocking on the door of another Taylor family. Lots of fun, though hot, at the Shrimp Festival. I had to take a nap and missed the Firefall afternoon concert.
