Good Night Irene!

Charleston only experienced tropical storm levels of rain and wind today as the center (eye) of Hurricane Irene passed within 160 miles of the coast

DH met me at the office as I worked late (again) and we decided to head out to the beach since the worst of the rain and wind had moved north. Wow, the power of these storms is incredible. Astronomical high tide of 7 .5 feet plus the storm surf left no beach on the Isle of Palms, major erosion, and the best ride in town- the pier at the sea cabins. The sway of the pier, the rush of surf just below and often over the pier was exhilerating. We didn't plan the activity so only have cell phone pictures.

The Park @ River's Edge Pool Party

The end of summer pool party as most children return to school this week. Luckily, the pool will remain open through early October.
We enjoyed a cook-out with many other residents. Evening thunder storms interrupted pool time, but the Park provided hot dogs and hamburgers, while residents brought covered dishes. Lots of variations on pasta salad!
Jack really began to enjoy jumping in this evening.

Sunday on Sullivan's Island

We met some of DH's family members at Dunleavy's for lunch then time at the park after lunch.
Steve and his daughter, David and Steve's son.
Jack and Poppy,Poppy David and his granddaughter, Steve and his children.
Part of the next generation
Jack, our blue eyed boy.
Charlotte was more social during lunch, but interaction with little children eventually gets on her nerves!

Please keep these families in your thought/prayers. David's son, Nicholas, continues a tour of duty for the Marines in the Middle East. Steve and family left Texas a few days ago and all four are enduring an extended road trip to their new home in Boston.

Another Redfish Day

Friday's storms made us a wary of taking the boat to Capers Island as we had planned. Maddie was sick with a stomach virus so Kristy and the children were unable to join us. We elected to take an afternoon trip to Palmetto Islands County Park after a run by Johnnie's Hotdogs at the Ace Hardware Store.

I rode my bike around the park while DH caught bait. I took pictures while DH fished. The afternoon's haul included 7 redfish and a couple of oyster toads. All were caught and released.

Saturday's storms were all around us, but only thunder and clouds threatened our time at the park.
Now, it is time to put Jack to bed. He is spending the night w/ Mimi and Poppy without his sister!

'Cowboys & Aliens' Theatrical Trailer

Another movie I did not choose, but DH said he has seen more than enough chick flicks in one life time.

I can't recommend this movie. The theatre was full of young military men so it does have an audience.

I had to cover my eyes much of the time until the alien grossness just became overkill. So I had a little time to think. The screenwriters must have also been bored so they threw in a few literature and religion references wih the town of Absolution and Harrison Ford's "Absolam, Absolam!"relationships with Percy and Nat.

Really though, what a waste of Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.
